Academic collections in HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, Dresden
The specialist library once belonging to the Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music (DZzM) has today developed into a documentation centre comprising some 150,000 items. Since 2001 HELLERAU and its collections have joined the Association Internationale des Bibliothèques Musicales (AIBM).
The collection includes a music studies reserve with the latest publications on contemporary classical music and cognate disciplines, music manuscripts and printed music from c. 1980 on, plus audio-visual recordings of contemporary musical works and events. The documentation section holds information on various composers from today’s music history and the music projects carried out at HELLERAU.
The Outlawed Music Collection (Sammlung Verfemte Musik) documents the work of the Research and Information Centre for Outlawed Music (FIZ) at the Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music on composers and works that were suppressed and persecuted in the Nazi era and under Stalinism. It contains not only published materials but also some unpublished sources on this topic.
