Frédéric Flamand

The Body - Architecture - Traces

The choreographer and former artistic director at the Ballet de Marseille, Frédéric Flamand, often worked on his dance productions along with architects, designers and visual artists such as Ai Wei Wei, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Hans Op de Beeck and Dominique Perrault. Flamand understands architecture as being “everything between the skin of one person and the skin of another”: “Very generally, the relationship between architecture and dance is echoed in the vision I have of the contemporary body: a body with a diluted identity, torn between the real and the virtual, confronted with the collapse of the border between the viewer and the private, reality and illusion, the city and the countryside”, says Flamand, consistently taking Appia’s theories to the next level. In his presentation, Flamand describes his ideas about a new, participatory production space.
